New progress in cadmium telluride solar cells

2018-7-31      View:

In the 21st century, countries around the world are accelerating the development of various renewable energy sources. The solar energy industry is a leading industry in the future, and its market potential is huge. At present, the main products in the solar cell market are silicon-based solar cells, accounting for more than 80% of the total market. However, the high cost of crystalline silicon cells and the high pollution of the production process have plagued the solar cell market, with the thin film solar cell technology. Continuous development, the future of thin film solar cells will become the leading technology in the field of solar cells, and is widely used. There are three main types of thin film solar cells with market prospects, namely amorphous silicon, cadmium telluride (CdTe) and copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) thin film solar cells, and cadmium telluride thin film solar cells are among the best and traditional. Compared with monocrystalline silicon solar cells, they have the advantages of low cost and better low light performance. In addition to photovoltaic power generation, the future thin film battery can also be applied to automobiles, mobile phones and other equipment, and its development prospects are extremely impressive.

Characteristics of cadmium telluride solar cells

CdTe thin film solar cells have the following characteristics compared to other compound thin film batteries:

(1) CdTe's forbidden band width (about 1.45 eV) is matched with the solar spectrum, and is higher than that of the silicon material by 100 times. It is suitable for the preparation of high-efficiency thin film solar cells.The theoretical conversion conversion rate is 28%;

(2) Compared with silicon materials, CdTe has low power temperature coefficient and good low-light effect, indicating that it is deuterated. Cadmium solar cells are more suitable for complex geographical environments such as deserts and high temperatures, and can generate electricity in low light conditions such as early morning and cloudy days;

(3) CdTe is a simple binary compound that is easy to produce single-phase materials. The cadmium telluride thin film solar cell has a simple structure, and its production time is greatly shortened compared with silicon-based solar energy, and it is only a few hours to complete the shipment from glass to finished product.
