Adding nano-aluminum powder to the solid propellant, the burning rate of the propellant is greatly improved, and the oxidation reaction rate of the nano-aluminum powder is nearly two orders of magnitude higher than that of the ordinary aluminum powder, so it needs to be coated with an inert material to keep it high activity.

 

The thickness of the oxide layer of nano-aluminum powder has a great influence on the standard theoretical specific impulse of composite propellant. The smaller the particle size, the greater the degree of influence. The thickness of the oxide layer of micro-aluminum powder has no effect on the standard theoretical specific impulse.

 

As the content of aluminum powder increases, the standard theoretical specific impulse and characteristic velocity of the composite propellant show the maximum, the combustion temperature increases, and the average relative molecular mass of the gas decreases. As the particle size of aluminum powder increases, the standard theoretical specific impulse increases, the combustion temperature and characteristic velocity increase, and the relative average molecular mass of gas decreases.
